Huntington Highsteppers Close Season on High Note

The Huntington High School Highsteppers closed out their season with a series of fine performances in Scholastic Kickline Association competitions at Nassau Community College.

The Highsteppers, Huntington's competitive dance team, performed at halftime of football and basketball teams, participated in the fall pep rally and Homecoming Day parade and competed in SKA sanctioned events. A planned trip to Florida for the national championships fell through, but team members still enjoyed a fun experience this year.

Head coach Samantha Natalello and assistant coach Lora Ayala led the squad. Bianca Iarrobino and Kelly McConnell served as captains, along with junior captain Alexandra Smith. The roster included Livi MacVicar Flug, Kristin Berner, Katie Fleming, Esti Lodge, Kylie Phelan, Mary Maiorello, Alexa Gorczycki, Liz Sager, Emily Sager, Karina Ramirez, Olivia Lopez, Brittney Robinson-Smikle, Caroline Doscas, Chrissy O'Grady, Liz Corrao and Ashley Angstadt.

The Highsteppers performed a special dance routine this winter during Courtney O'Bryan Night ceremonies in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The evening honored the 2011 graduate who was killed in a December car crash in rural Pennsylvania while on a charitable fundraising trip with a group of fellow Penn State students.

There isn't any doubt that the Highsteppers are a high energy and dedicated group of young woman who practice long hours to perfect their dance moves and performance routines.

The Highsteppers have been a part of Huntington High School's life for decades. The group is expected to maintain its place in the school for years to come.
