The Tri-M Music Honor Society at J. Taylor Finley Middle School welcomed 36 new members during a recent induction ceremony in the school's large group instruction room. The evening featured effusive praise and enjoyable musical selections.

The new members include Jean Abecassis, Cole Blackburn, Nancy Brill, Declan Byrne, Emily Christensen, Nancy Fallon, Jack Gallagher, Fiona Greir, Holly Grabowski, Andrew Gunther, Brianna Jones, Melany Lanham-Ciancia, Samuel Latt, Sophia Latt, Charlotte Levinson, Justin LoTurco, Hannah Maiorello, Jack Malone, Meaghan McArthur, Elisa Medina-Jaudes, Lily Morris, Annalise Mozer, Asar Nadi, Brianne Neira, Zoe Neyer, Caroline Petrozzo, Bailey Riordan, Jackson Spector, Olivia Stamatatos, Sara Stewart, Sofia Suarez, James Vicari, Justin Waite, Bailey Wiffen, Ally Wohl and Ari Wohl.

"We are proud of our new Tri-M inductees," Finley Principal John Amato said. "They have shown an enthusiasm and special talent for music. It is great to recognize that talent in the middle school. We know they will get years of enjoyment from making music."

One-by-one, Tri-M officers spoke about the meaning and mission of the society. The proud parents in attendance snapped plenty of photos, politely applauded and some even videotaped the event.

The new members were presented with Tri-M pins and told to wear them "with pride and dignity as you continue to demonstrate the value of music in your life and share your gift with your school and community."

"The Finley Tri-M Honor Society honors our hard working and talented music students who are always eager to challenge themselves in our program," said Joan R. Fretz, district director of fine and performing arts. "We have so many new members in Finley's Tri-M chapter! I am so proud of all of them and look forward to their continued leadership when they join our high school ensembles."

The inductees were chosen on the basis of their musicianship, academic performance and demonstrated leadership. They were told to take "great pride in this achievement, which unites you with thousands of other student members throughout the world."

Tri-M's continuing members include Cristina Bateman, Megan Boyce, Alexandra Caffrey, Elizabeth Corrao, Kayla Eidle, Hailey Giordano, Anna Goldenbaum, Hillary Hardardt, Suzie Petryk, Amy Schmelter, Mary Sheehan, Marina Siegel and Brendan Wirth.

The evening's program included performances by Tri-M members in band, orchestra and chorus. Following the formal ceremony, a reception for parents and students was held in the school foyer. With the Huntington community placing so much value on the arts, induction into the music honor society is a cherished accomplishment.

Elizabeth Corrao and Hailey Giordano are serving as the society's co-presidents this year. The slate of officers also includes Jack Gallagher (vice-president), Mary Sheehan (secretary), Hannah Maiorello (treasurer) and Jack Malone (historian).

Finley music teacher Chris Scarnato serves as the Tri-M faculty advisor.
