Huntington Shines at
High Arts Showcase
Huntington High School art students shined at the Huntington Art Council's High Arts Showcase, which annually features exceptional work created by teenagers from across Long Island.
The show, which the Arts Council affectionately calls the Art-trium Gallery in reference to its location in the atrium of a huge Route 110-area office building (located at 25 Melville Park Road, just south of the Long Island Expressway), will continue daily through May 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday and from 8 a.m.-1p.m. on Saturday. It is open to the public.
The works on display were evaluated and the best of them received an Award of Excellence, an honor bestowed on Huntington's Patrick Donegan (mixed media sculpture), Tyler Moore (digital photography) and Israel Mahr (digital photography).
Huntington's Sandra Durante (photography), Itzel Cedillo (collage), Cody Jacobs (photography), Rhiccia Gomez (acrylic painting) and Danielle Cerezo (photography) were also invited to exhibit their beautiful work in the prestigious show.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for these talented students to showcase their exceptional art," Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said. "It's impossible not to be impressed by what they have created."
The show's opening reception was held last week. William Grabowski serves as curator of the Art-trium Gallery. The opening night crowd was entertained by a Huntington High School honors string quartet consisting of Christian Jamison (violin I), Ashley Melgar (violin II), Brittany Oliva (viola) and Andrew Ku (cello). Huntington music teacher Lisa Leonardi directed the group.
Huntington High School art teachers Kristin Singer, Amy Worth, Kasmira Mohanty, Pam Pifford and Devin Aurrichio (who coordinated Huntington's exhibit) had students participating in the showcase.
