Huntington Seniors
Present Class Gift
When it came time to present Huntington High School’s Class of 2010 gift to the school, senior Sara Lustberg stepped to the microphone at the 149th commencement exercises and spoke of the “honor” she felt to be the one chosen to make the announcement.
Ms. Lustberg, who is headed to the Univ. of Michigan in the fall, said the 2010 graduates decided to donate a handsome sign that will be mounted on the year-old security guard booth at the mouth of the high school parking field.
“Everyday as people enter the parking lot, our sign will be the first thing they see, providing a constant reminder of the graduating Class of 2010 and all the accomplishments and selfless endeavors we have engaged in throughout our high school careers,” Ms. Lustberg told the standing room only crowd.
One of the top seniors academically, Ms. Lustberg distinguished herself over the past four years. Inquisitive in the classroom and willing to work hard on behalf of others through volunteer service at Huntington Hospital and Yellowstone National Park, the teenager was the Class of 2010’s treasurer.
“Our class has found a way to make this school year a little more interesting each and every day through the combination of every single one of our unique personalities,” she told commencement crowd. “The creative morning announcements, the spirited events of homecoming, the always exciting and diligently played sporting events, the fantastic drama performances and the numerous fundraisers by almost every club and society in the high school are just a few of the accomplishments we have achieved, proving our dedication and tenacity for helping to make Huntington a more enthusiastic and enjoyable place for everyone.”
Like so many of her classmates, Ms. Lustberg is headed to an out-of-state college, but her alma mater will never be far from her thoughts. “We hope that our gift will bring good memories of our class to all who view it and that our presence in Huntington High School will live on forever,” she said.
