Carino’s College Lax Career
Wraps-up
Austin Carino wrapped up an outstanding college lacrosse career by leading nationally ranked New York Institute of Technology with 43 goals this spring. The former Huntington High School star closed out his four-year run for the Bears with 145 goals and ten assists.
The 22-year old, who won All-Conference honors for the third time, was third in the country with 3.31 goals scored per game. NYIT finished the season with a 9-4 mark.
This year at NYIT, Carino was nearly unstoppable, firing off 103 shots, including 72 on goal from his attack position. He had so many big games it was hard to keep track of them all. In an 18-8 victory over Mercy College, Carino put the ball in the net seven times. He scored five goals in respective games against Wheeling Jesuit, Lake Erie and St. Anslem’s and netted four against both Chestnut College and Molloy.
In a 17-16 overtime win over Seton Hall, the Blue Devil great scored three times. It was that kind of year. The 5’8, 175 lb. Carino, who wore uniform number 12, also picked up 16 ground balls and caused opponents to turn the ball over six times.
As a Blue Devil, Carino was nothing short of magnificent, winning All-County lax honors twice and lettering three times as a varsity soccer player. He scored 84 goals as a junior, helping lead the Huntington lax squad to its first ever state lacrosse championship. As a senior he scored 71 times and assisted on 11 other goals, as the Blue Devils won the state crown again.
