Rebecca Silverman Wins Principal’s Award
Rebecca Silverman’s infectious smile, contagious laugh and intellectual firepower are hard to resist. Certainly her classmates at Huntington High School can’t. The senior is the valedictorian of the Class of 2010 and her potential appears unlimited.
Huntington Principal Carmela Leonardi extolled the virtues of Ms. Silverman at last week’s senior academic awards night in the high school auditorium. “Rebecca is the type of person anyone would love to be friends with,” Dr. Leonardi said. “She is a wonderful person who is not only brilliant, but has a generous heart and is kind to everyone.”
Dr. Leonardi said that in choosing a recipient for the award, she “looks not only at academic achievement, but also at personal commitment to learning, motivation and effort. Leadership and involvement in the life of our school community are also factors taken into consideration.”
Ms. Silverman will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall. She plans to pursue studies in environmental science. There just might be some dabbling in theater, too. At Huntington High School, the senior was immersed in the drama club and its productions and she displayed a special flair on stage.
“Over the past several I have given the Principal’s Award to students who not only excelled academically but who also have contributed to the school community and to other students,” Dr. Leonardi said. “Rebecca has a joy for life and a desire to ‘experience everything’ that are really refreshing.”
