John Patron scored 20 points, including 11 from the foul line, but the Kings Park boys’ basketball team topped Huntington, 55-44 last Friday night. The Blue Devils led in the game after eight minutes, 12-8 and were ahead at halftime, 19-16. But, Kings Park outscored Huntington in the second half, 39-25 to secure the victory.

 

John McCarthy scored added 11 points for the Blue Devils. Jeremy Rhodes scored six and Shaquan Raines pumped in another five. Tyre Brown connected for two points.

Lobasso is Perfect

The Huntington boys’ fencing team bested Newfield, 16-11 behind Dan Lobasso’s perfect afternoon in epee. Lobasso went 3-0 to help the Blue Devils gain a much needed victory.

Blue Devils Get Pins

The Blue Devil wrestling team went on a pinning frenzy against Harborfields en route to a 53-9 victory. Huntington’s Corey Jamison, Nigel McNeil, Maurice Loadholt, Louis Puca and Nick Lupi picked up pins. Damon McQueen and Duncan Murchison won by technical falls. T. J. Wilson won by injury default and Ryan Fox grabbed a major decision. John Mallouk took a 3-1 decision.

Weller and Clifford Star

Olivia Weller and Johanna Clifford are stars for the Huntington girls’ fencing team this season. They proved it again when each went 3-0 in epee last Saturday to help the Blue Devils edge host Half Hollow Hills, 15-12.

Wrestlers Saddled with Loss

St. Anthony’s toppled the Huntington wrestling team last week, 27-25. The Blue Devils received a pin from Luis Mendez, a technical fall from Maurice Loadholt, major decisions from Nigel McNeil and Ryan Fox and decisions from Kevin Mendez and Damon McQueen.

Oh So Close

The Huntington girls’ basketball team came oh so close to pulling off the biggest upset of the year before falling to state ranked Kings Park, 43-41 in a game played before a crowd of about 200 in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium last Friday night.

 

Huntington trailed early, 12-8 and was down by two points at halftime, 21-19. The Blue Devils picked it up a few notches in the second half and built a four point lead, 41-37 midway through the fourth quarter before their offense turned ice cold.

 

It would have been a remarkable victory for Huntington since Kings Park is undefeated in league play this winter and entered the game ranked 12th in the state.

 

Lauren Visbal and Jackie Waldron each score 11 points for the Blue Devils. Meredith Court added 10 points and Raynisha Witherspoon had seven points. Emma Hayes-Hurley scored two points.

 

Huntington played excellent defense and despite not being able to score down the stretch, still led 41-40 with less than 30 seconds remaining, but the Blue Devils just couldn’t hold on for the victory.

Girls’ Fencers Win

The Huntington girls’ fencing team easily turned back visiting Newfield, 20-7. Dylan Tuozzo went 3-0 in saber, Alexandra Martinolich and Cody Jacobs each went 3-0 in foil and Olivia Weller and Johanna Clifford each went 2-0 in epee to lead the Blue Devils.
