Cristina Badalamenti
Loves a Challenge

When you watch Cristina Badalamenti compete on a soccer field or a track, it doesn't take long to notice she plays to win. The teenager is a hard-nosed competitor who has an unbreakable focus and a steely glare. She means business, pure and simple.

While that tough appearance can intimidate opponents, she has a much softer side, too. She's an articulate, funny and intensely loyal teenager who has a unique personality and keen intellect.

The senior has challenged herself academically by enrolling in honors and Advanced Placement level courses. "Some of my classes have been really challenging, but that's what I love about them," Ms. Badalamenti said. She is still undecided about which college she will attend but is interested in pursuing a degree in occupational therapy.

Every single sport season she's been on a Blue Devil athletic team. "Soccer has definitely had a huge impact on my life," Ms. Badalamenti said. "I've become good friends with my teammates and we became a family."

In each of the past three years, Ms. Badalamenti has played on the varsity soccer team and she has filled key roles for head coach John Walsh. This past fall she earned All-Conference honors for her take-no-prisoners style of play.

"My most memorable experience in high school has definitely been going to the county championship last year in soccer," Ms. Badalamenti said. "Looking out at all the people in the stands cheering us on was the best feeling. It meant a lot and I am proud of how far we've come as a team."

She also runs on the winter and spring track teams. "Last year, I was a part of the 4 x 200 relay in winter track that won first place in our division and beat the school record," Ms. Badalamenti proudly said. "Running that relay was probably the most surprising moment in my life. My three teammates and I were definitely not expecting to come in first for our division!"

Academically, Ms. Badalamenti is right up there with the top members of her class. She's a member of the National Honor Society as well as the English, Math and Italian honor societies.

"High school has been a life changing and great experience," the senior said. "I've learned so much over the last few years and now I'm ready for whatever life throws at me."

"Reliable" is a good word to describe Ms. Badalamenti, according to teachers and coaches. She has a steady presence in classrooms and in the sports world. The teenager doesn't call attention to herself, preferring instead to let her efforts and achievements speak for themselves. She sets goals and works hard to accomplish them.

"My high school experience has not been easy, but it has been worthwhile," Ms. Badalamenti said. "I have learned and accomplished so much here in Huntington and it's going to be bittersweet graduating in a few months. I will always remember the friendly faces and the comforting feel at Huntington High School."
