Huntington to March against
Breast Cancer
The Huntington High School community is planning to march against a scourge that continues to plague far too many Americans. The Fifth Annual Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14 from 3-5 p.m. on the school track.
Students, teachers, staff and local residents are being invited to circle the track during the event, which will also see the Huntington step team perform and participate. The event is sponsored by the Class of 2011 and co-organized by class advisors Lori Pyzocha and Eliana Oranges along with school nurse Connie DeGrassi and step team advisor Yolanda Carey.
“This is a heartwarming event that heightens awareness and raises much needed funds,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “To see students, staff and community members coming together for such a noble common cause is inspiring.”
Organizers are accepting donations for pink ribbons that will decorate the hallways of the school. The contributor’s name will be placed on the ribbon they purchase. A bake sale will also be held. Monies raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
At past events, friends have walked arm-in-arm around the track and some participants have personalized the afternoon by telling others how breast cancer has touched a loved one.
