Lader Wins Award in Astoria Federal Photo Contest

Rebecca Lader, an up-and-coming young photographer who will enter her senior year at Huntington High School next September, was one of 12 metropolitan area students who won awards in Astoria Federal Savings annual teen photo contest.

Ms. Lader, who has worked closely with Huntington teacher Pamela Piffard, received a $250 stipend, in addition to a framed certificate.  Ms. Piffard garnered a $100 grant for classroom use.

More than 1,500 entries were received from Long Island, New York City and Westchester teenagers, making Ms. Lader’s award all the more impressive.  "I could not be more proud of Becca,” Ms. Piffard said. “She works hard and her efforts clearly pay off. It was an extremely nice award reception that Astoria held for the kids."

This year’s photo contest theme was “faces and feelings.”  Ms. Lader’s image featured classmate Richie Gray, who has frequently modeled for the soon-to-be Huntington senior.  Ms. Lader plans to use the award stipend to purchase a new camera lens.

“It’s so refreshing to see hundreds of young adults participate in this contest annually and express themselves in a positive, creative way,” said Astoria Federal Senior Vice President and Director of Marketing Brian Edwards.

Astoria Financial Corporation, with assets of $21.4 billion, is the holding company for Astoria Federal Savings and Loan Association.  Established in 1888, Astoria Federal, with deposits in New York totaling $13.6 billion, is the largest thrift depository headquartered in New York.
