Blue Ribbons of Excellence Awarded at Art Show

DressAs they strolled around the Huntington School District’s annual art show, visitors of all ages marveled at the work produced by students ranging from five to 18 years of age. Hundreds of dazzling works were on display. So many pieces were showcased that maps were distributed to help residents navigate their way around the floor.

Several thousand people viewed this year’s show over a two-day period. Teachers selected “the best of the best” and put works covering every type of art on display. The finest pieces were honored with a Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award. The huge show was housed in the Huntington High School gym with a steady crowd in attendance throughout its run.

“Those who took the time to come to the show were simply amazed at the quality of the student work,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “Our art students and art teachers have made Huntington’s art program exceptional in every way.”

Blue RibbonThe Huntington art show is an annual tradition that attracts droves of residents each year who express fascination that youngsters from 5 to 18 years of age are capable of producing such high quality work. This year the works ranged from sculpture, photography and multi-media, painting, fashion, jewelry and everything in between. “Our art department enjoyed a banner year,” said Joan R. Fretz, district director of fine and performing arts.

Once again the show was scheduled to coincide with the annual budget vote and school board election. “It’s definitely worth the time it takes to tour the show,” Mr. Finello said. “It’s exciting to see what our students are capable of producing.”

Blue ribbons of excellence were awarded to dozens of students for what Mr. Finello described as “terrific work.” The honorees included:
