The Huntington School District's Council of PTAs will hold its annual luncheon on Tuesday, June 5 at the Huntington Crescent Club at noon. A variety of awards will be presented to PTA volunteers.

Splashes of Hope at Southdown

The Southdown School PTA and the school's students have been collaborating on an exciting project. "We have partnered with Splashes of Hope to paint two murals, one of which will be donated and hung at the Family Service League Manor Field facility," said Kerry Neira, corresponding secretary of the Southdown PTA. The second mural will be on display at Southdown School.

Schools Closed on May 25

The Huntington School District, including all schools and offices, will be closed on Friday, May 25. No classes will be held. The date was listed as a contingency day on the 2011/12 school calendar. It would have been used had schools been closed due to snow or some other event.

Dave Grackin's Retirement Party

A retirement party for Huntington Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 4:30 p.m. at The Harbor Club in Halesite. The affair will include a sit-down dinner, a selection of refreshments, dessert, coffee and tea. Tickets are now on sale for $65, which includes a contribution toward a retirement gift.

Party to Honor Retiring Teachers

The Associated Teachers of Huntington, the professional organization of the Huntington School District's faculty members, is holding an end of the year party in honor of this year's retiring teachers on Tuesday, June 5 at The Harbor Club from 4-6:30 p.m. The event will include a buffet dinner.

Kaja Coraor to Study at UNC

Huntington High School senior Kaja Coraor is headed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study economics and mathematical decision science. The Class of 2012 member is a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

Ms. Coraor is a two-time white water slalom national champion. She's known for her peaceful personality and humble nature. The enthusiastic teenager displays a quiet confidence as she goes about her business.
