Woodhull Student Activities

Huntington offers a comprehensive program of student activities, including nearly 60 clubs for grades 4-12.  Students can explore areas of interest ranging from the school newspaper to drama club productions, as well as engaging in community service related opportunities.  These activities support the educational mission of the school district and can foster success in later life.  Research has demonstrated that students who participate in after school activities are more likely to have higher grades, better attendance and fewer discipline referrals than those who do not participate.  All students are welcome to join as many clubs as their schedule permits.  The extracurricular program also allows for possible career exploration and many participants have pursued their interests on the college level and even professionally.  A list of clubs for each level is provided on this website.  Students are encouraged to meet with a club advisor for more information about a specific program.

Theater Arts Club   The Woodhull Theater Arts club produces a musical that involves acting, singing and dance. Past Productions: Big The Musical, Singin’ In The Rain, Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady. Approximately 4 months of the year. A schedule is posted each week. This club consists of approximately 100 students. All children have the opportunity to participate in the cast. There are tryouts for the leads; the stage crew is limited to 5th and 6th grade.

Art Club   This club challenges the participants with a variety of exciting tasks including: set scenery for this year’s musical production, mural work in the halls and the beautification of the Monet pond courtyard. This club consists of approximately 30 6th graders. The child must possess the skills and commitment needed in order to accomplish the important tasks involved.

Newspaper Club   The Newspaper Club meets 2 times a month. In the first session students are assigned a report and work to complete it. Articles are generally about events at Woodhull Intermediate or subjects that interest the students, e.g.; surveys about favorite sports teams, favorite Halloween candy. During the second session they edit their report and type it into the network. Students learn about editorials, as well as interviewing techniques. It takes approximately 4 additional hours per month to format the articles into newspaper format using the following techniques: adding graphics, captions, changing font size, etc. The club averages 30-39 students and usually has a waiting list of students. The club is open to all 3 grades. Attendance is taken each meeting. Minutes are not recorded; a copy of the monthly newspaper is available.
