Blue Devil Marching Band Tunes Up

The Huntington High School Blue Devil marching band is tuning up for what it hopes is a magical fall season. The band finished second in the New York championships last year and is expected to compete for an Empire State crown in 2014.

Huntington music teachers Jason Giachetti and Brian Stellato are returning as co-directors of the Blue Devil band. The pair of faculty members will be assisted by a full staff committed to making the band the best it can possibly be.

A training camp is set for August 11-14 from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. The annual band camp will be held on August 18-24, also at Finley. Band members are expected to be in attendance from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. the first day of the camp and then from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, which will also feature a family show at 2 p.m.

The fall schedule includes numerous competitions, football game halftime shows and the Homecoming Day parade (Saturday, September 20). The state championships are set for Saturday-Sunday, October 25-26 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse

This year’s drum majors are Megan Boyce, Connor MacDonald and Kayla Eidle. Kyle Hansen is the field major. Izzy Harman, Leah Butz and Jackie Bacik are the color guard captains. Justin Edgar-McNerney is the drum captain. Marina Siegel and Jack Blakley comprise the front ensemble. Savannah Richardson will serve as the woodwind captain.

Bailey Wiffen is set to be the flute section leader. Savanah Richardson and Kyle Hansen are the clarinet section leaders. Dylan DelGuidice is the alto sax section leader. Amy Schmelter is the brass captain Bailey Riordan and Jason Moriera are the mellphone section leaders. Amy Schmelter and Nancy Fallon are the trumpet section leaders.

The full marching band is rehearsing in July on Monday nights from 6-8:30 p.m. New member rehearsals were held on Tuesdays, July 8 and July 15 from 6-8:30 p.m.
