Huntington High School Ranked Among Top 2% in Nation

The Daily Beast has ranked Huntington High School among the top two percent of all public high schools in the United States.

Huntington is ranked 571 out of more than 24,500 secondary schools in the country. “We used six indicators culled from school surveys to compare public high schools in the U.S., with graduation and college acceptance rates weighed most heavily,” according to the Daily Beast. “Other criteria included: college-level courses and exams, percentage of students with free or reduced lunch, as well as SAT and ACT scores - another mark of how well a school prepares students for college.”

Huntington is led by veteran Principal Dr. Carmela Leonardi and Assistant Principal Brenden Cusack and a team of experienced department level administrators, hardworking teachers and dedicated support staff members.

“We are very proud of all our students,” Dr. Leonardi said. “It is thanks to their hard work and enormous talent that we can rank within the top two percent of the nation’s high schools. Of course, none of this could be achieved without the continued dedication of the very qualified and talented teachers that inspire our students and continue to keep their learning as a top priority.

After analyzing responses to surveys, the Daily Beast ranked the finest 735 high schools in the nation. Huntington High School’s average SAT score was listed at 1,580. Its average ACT score was pegged at 23.8. About 26 percent of students were cited as being enrolled in Advanced Placement courses.

“This is just additional confirmation of the great programs, teachers and students at Huntington High School,” Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “It’s a genuine tribute to the efforts put forth and the work being done by all involved.”
