Glowacky Inks NCAA Division I
Letter of Intent

Huntington High School senior Carly Glowacky has signed an NCAA Division I national letter of intent to attend Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut and fence for the Pioneers.

"Carly came to the fencing team after a long career with dance," said Alan Kuver, Huntington's longtime fencing coach. "She quickly chose fencing as her main activity and never looked back. She has worked as hard as any Huntington fencer has to improve her skills and rise to the top here on Long Island."

Glowacky has been awarded both merit and athletic scholarships. She has been accepted into Sacred Heart's honors program and invited into its master's in communication five-year program. She plans to either double major in communications and English or major in communications and minor in English.

The teenager's senior year schedule includes AP Government and Politics, AP English Literature and Composition, AP 2D Studio Art, Spanish 5 Honors, Pre-Calculus, Forensics, Project Adventure III and a career internship with teacher Kelly Krycinski in an English 9 Honors class.

Glowacky has been a member of the Blue Devil varsity fencing team since ninth grade, has contributed to Etcetera, the high school literary magazine and The Dispatch, the high school newspaper, been a member of the jazz ensemble for the past three years and was even in the Blue Devil marching band's color guard for a season. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and the English Honor Society.

The Huntington fencing star has been training at the Fencers Club in Manhattan. When she is not there or in school, she weight trains and does cardio training in a gym. She has vied in fencing competitions across the country and has qualified for the national championships in Columbus, Ohio in early July.

"Her dedication and training made her an athlete that colleges wanted to recruit," said Kuver about Glowacky. "After drawing interest from several colleges, the Huntington fencing program is proud that she will continue her fencing career at Sacred Heart University."

Sacred Heart's 2012/13 enrollment stands at 6,238 total students, including 3,241 full-time undergraduates, 727 part-time undergrads and 2,270 graduate students. The student body is 67 percent female and represents 42 states. The college has awarded more than 37,000 degrees to over 33,500 alumni.

Sacred Heart offers 50 degree programs on the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
Nearly 800 students participate in the Pioneers 31 Division I athletic teams. Sacred Heart won the Northeast Conference Commissioner's Cup for the fifth year in a row last year. The cup is awarded to the top-performing athletic program in the conference.

Sacred Heart has ten on-campus residence halls and five additional leased facilities that border the campus. The campus totals 71.25 acres.
