Blue Devil Lax Keeps Rolling

Christian Fiordelisi scored four goals and added an assist to help the Huntington High School boys' lacrosse team topple visiting Islip, 13-4. The win improved the Blue Devils' mark to 10-2 in Suffolk Division II play, 11-3 overall.

Leading 2-0 after the first quarter, Huntington extended its advantage to 6-1 by halftime and put the game away with strong second half play. John Vanderschuyt won 10-of-14 face-offs to help the Blue Devils maintain their edge.

Islip (7-5, 8-6) is a well-coached team with plenty of talented players, so Huntington couldn't let its guard down, even with a big second half lead.

In addition to Fiordelisi, the Blue Devils received solid offensive performances from Connor Birchard (2g, 2a), Chris Shoen (2g, 1a), Pat Reilly (2g), Ben Kocis (1g, 2a), Billy Martin (1g, 2) and Matt Whitcher (1g).

Huntington's starting defensive unit of Peter Goldsmith, Connor McCartney, Christian Jamison and Tim Mattiace continued their physical style of play this spring. The group has a "take no prisoners" attitude and prides itself on holding opponents to as few goals as possible.

Blue Devil goalie TJ Greenhill was impressive in making 13 saves, some on laser-like shots and others in a crowd. Dom Tesoriero came on to stop one shot in the net.

Entering this week, Huntington sits in third place in the 22-team Suffolk Division II standings, behind only Shoreham-Wading River and Comsewogue.
