A Learning Experience for Finley Tennis

The fall season was a learning experience for the J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls' tennis team, which finished the campaign with a 4-6 mark under head coach Eric Triolo.

Singles players and captains Gabby Deluca, Leanne Daly and Theresa Moreno paced the Falcons. "Gabby was a great leader," Triolo said. "She played first singles and has great potential."

Daly was another team leader and "very hard worker," Triolo said. Moreno is an up-and-coming player. "She has great natural ability and always works hard," the coach said. "She has a bright future."

Triolo said his squad was "a wonderful team with a great work ethic; very fun to be around." The Finley roster featured 12 players, with nine of them being eighth graders, "who will be missed," the coach said.

Eighth graders Miranda Nykolyn and Camryn Libes and seventh grader Sophia Ornato were also counted among the team's top players. Ornato won four doubles matches.

Finley topped Hauppauge twice by identical 7-0 scores and also turned back East Northport (5-2) and Stimson (5-2). The victory over Stimson in the last meet of the season was especially sweet since the Falcons lost to them two days earlier, 4-3.
