Participation Strong
Participation in the winter athletic program at Huntington High School totals 245 students, according to a report compiled by Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy.
The student-athletes are split among 11 teams. The girls’ winter track squad numbers 37 while the boys’ winter track team consists of 36 athletes. The varsity girls’ fencing team has 37 members. The varsity and junior varsity wrestling teams have a combined roster of 36.
The varsity boys’ fencing team consists of 27 students. The varsity boys’ swimming team has a roster of 18. The varsity and JV boys’ basketball teams each have 14 members, respectively. The varsity girls’ basketball team has a roster of 15 while the JV girls’ basketball team has 11 members.
The high school winter season participants include 145 boys and 100 girls.
Mrs. McCarthy said there are 70 students participating on three “Winter Season I” teams at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. There are 31 athletes on the girls’ volleyball squad, 22 students on the eighth grade boys’ basketball team and 17 athletes on the seventh grade boys’ basketball team.
