Blue Devils Girls' Lax to Host Dinner
The Huntington High School girls' lacrosse program is hosting a dinner for its players, parents and alumni and friends of this year's team on Sunday, February 17 from 2-5 p.m. at the Huntington Fire Department.
Tickets to the dinner can be purchased for $5 per person or $20 per family. There will be an array of delicious food dishes along with refreshments. The dinner will double as a fundraiser for the program so a variety of interesting raffles will be on sale along with a selection of attractive lacrosse apparel for the 2013 season. Naturally there will be plenty of prizes, too.
Organizers are hoping for a large turnout of varsity and junior varsity players, parents and family members. "Our goal is to raise money for the two teams for game and scout filming this spring," said Matt Burnett, a member of the parent fundraising committee.
The Blue Devils girls' lacrosse coaching staff will be on hand to speak about the upcoming season and the Huntington program. Parents are donating, food, prizes and raffles and the players will be helping out during the fundraiser. The dinner is a first for the Blue Devils girls' lax program, according to the fundraising committee.
Huntington will return a strong team to the field this spring with many talented players, including Hannah Burnett (Univ. of Florida) and Alexis Thompson (Lafayette College), who both signed national letters of intent with NCAA Division I schools.
Kathy Wright has been elevated to the position of head coach, after previously serving as assistant coach under Nancy Wilson. Ms. Wilson stepped down after being promoted by district to director of special education and student support services last summer.
