The Little Mermaid Entertains Crowds

The Woodhull Intermediate School theater arts club hit the ball out of the park with this year's production of The Little Mermaid. Two sold out shows left the actors and stage hands feeling exhilarated.

The acting, scenery, sound and lighting were all top-notch and the cast, crew and audience all had a fun time from the opening act to the final curtain call. "There were four amazing performances, each one a little better than the one before" said Allison VonVange, a teacher at the school and the theater arts club's advisor. The actors and their family members weren't about to disagree.

The production utilized the talents of 112 actors and 18 stagehands. Fourth graders from the district's four primary school buildings were given a private performance on a day they came to tour Woodhull School.

Art teacher Todd Hiscox coordinated the stage crew and scenery. Woodhull teacher assistant Tomarah Castillo was the production's assistant director. Drama club alums Alyssa Befumo, Jordan Biener and Hannah Pipolo also assisted with the production.

Woodhull's art club created the scenery for the production. "We even had a boat," Ms. VonVange said. The atmosphere was electric and the actors rose to the occasion and put their best foot forward.

The production's songs made the audience want to stand up and dance. "We couldn't get the words out of our heads," Ms. VonVange said. "We practiced so much even our families knew our lines."

When the production finally wrapped up, Ms. VonVange said everyone seemed to agree on one thing: "Life under the sea is better than anything."
