The Huntington High School girls' tennis team topped visiting John H. Glenn, 6-1. The Blue Devils were led by first singles player Olivia Ammirati, who stopped Amanda Nowak in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 and first doubles partners Jamie Brown and Samantha Dever who bested Kristan Chung and Jessica Hutzel, 6-3, 6-2. Huntington is coached by veteran Jamie Fishlow.
Reilly Scores Lone Goal
The Walt Whitman High School girls' soccer team used the game's lone soccer half goal to best host Huntington, 2-1. Katie Reilly scored for the Blue Devils while goalie Hannah Burnett compiled 11 saves. Huntington is coached by John Walsh.
Shutman Wins in Straight Sets
The Huntington High School girls' tennis team traveled to Kings Park and bested the Kingsmen in a Suffolk League II meet, 7-0. Emily Shutman led the way for the Blue Devils with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cara Devoti.
Blue Devils Drop Two
The Huntington High School girls' volleyball team, coached by Lynn Hefele, dropped two hard fought contests to open its season. The Blue Devils lost to Babylon in a non-league meet, 3-2 (27-25, 15-25, 25-15, 16-25 and 25-18) and to Harborfields, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12 and 25-23).
Smoot is Sensational
Jim Smoot was sensational as the Huntington High School golf team shutout Lindenhurst at the Bergen Point golf course, 9-0. Smoot shot a 2-under-34 on the front nine to pace the Blue Devils.
Huntington Offense Stymied
The Huntington boys' soccer team never managed to get its offense untracked in a 3-0 loss to visiting Northport. The Tigers took a 2-0 halftime lead to throw to the Blue Devils on the defensive. Huntington goalie Ari Moskowitz recorded four saves in the net.
Petryk Captures First
Suzie Petryk captured first place at the Huntington girls' cross country team ran past West Babylon, 16-47. (The team with the lowest score wins in cross country.) Petryk flew through the three-mile course at Sunken Meadow State Park in 20:53 to pace the Blue Devils.
Matthews Named VB Coach
Theresa Matthews has been named Huntington High School's junior varsity girls' volleyball coach. She will work with varsity head coach Lynn Hefele. Mrs. Matthews teaches physical education at Southdown Primary School.
