Marcelo Sandoval has been appointed to serve as the J. Taylor Finley Middle School seventh grade football team's assistant coach. He is a 2001 graduate of SUNY College at Old Westbury, where he majored in historical studies, language and culture education.

Mr. Sandoval previously worked as an assistant varsity coach for several seasons and also coached on the junior varsity level at Cold Spring Harbor High School.

Blue Devils Win in OT

The Huntington High School varsity field hockey team topped visiting Northport in overtime, 2-1 when the Blue Devils outscored the Tigers in the penalty strokes phase, 3-1.

After a scoreless first half, Huntington's Darya DeSimone scored the game's first goal off an assist from Sarah Fernandez. Northport later tied the score, throwing the contest into the penalty stroke overtime.

Huntington's Emily Kata, Katia DeSimone and Gillian Ehrman all scored during the strokes phase. Blue Devil goalie Greta Farrell made nine saves.

Huntington Held Scoreless

The Huntington girls' soccer team was held scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods in a 1-0 loss to visiting Bellport. Bellport goalie Megan Schaeffer recorded five save while her Huntington counterpart, Hannah Burnett, stopped eight shots.

Smoot Shoots Par

Jim Smoot is one good golfer. The Huntington freshman shot a right-on-the-mark par 36 on the front nine at the Bergen Point golf course to lead the Blue Devils over West Babylon, 9-0. Huntington's Justin Loturco shot a four-over-par 40.

"This 18-hole championship links-style, seaside course is located in West Babylon on Long Island's south shore," states the Bergen Point Golf Club's website. "The par 71 layout, designed by famed architect William Mitchell opened for play in 1971 and is part of the four courses in the Suffolk County Parks Department network. It is privately operated by Zebra Golf, Inc."

No. 2 Doubles Paces Huntington

No. 2 doubles players Rebecca Palladino and Pauline McGlone won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 to pace the Huntington girls' tennis team in a 7-0 victory over visiting Kings Park.

In other action, the Blue Devils dropped a 5-2 verdict to undefeated Walt Whitman.

H-ton Drops VB Match

The Huntington girls' volleyball team played a spirited match at Comsewogue. The Blue Devils captured the first game, 25-23, before dropping the next three, 25-6, 25-11, 25-14.

In other action, powerful Kings Park swept Huntington, 25-7, 25-6, 25-8. The victory improved the Kingsmen's record to 5-0 in Suffolk League V.

Huntington traveled to Deer Park last Friday afternoon and dropped a 3-0 verdict to the Falcons, 25-5, 27-25, 25-18.

Coto Notches Lone Goal

Senior midfielder Everet Coto scored a first half goal for the Blue Devil boys' soccer team in a 1-1 tie against visiting Hauppauge. Neither team could score in the second half or in the two overtime periods. Huntington goalie Ari Moskowitz stopped four shots in the net.

No Stopping Petryk

Suzie Petryk crossed the line in first place to help lift Huntington over Comsewogue, 15-50. (The team with the lowest score wins in cross country.) The Blue Devils clinched the victory with Sara Stewart's fifth place performance. The sophomore covered the three mile course in 23:26.

Moskowitz Notches Shutout

The Huntington boys' soccer team turned in an exceptional defensive effort in a scoreless tie at Copiague last Friday afternoon. Neither team could manage a goal during regulation or overtime. Blue Devil goalie Ari Moskowitz notched a shutout, recording seven saves. Huntington's offense had eight shots on goal, but couldn't sneak one past Eagles' goalie Alexis Batres-Molina.

DeSimone Gets Hat-Trick

Katia DeSimone was unstoppable, scoring the first hat-trick of her career to propel the Huntington field hockey team past visiting Half Hollow Hills, 3-0. DeSimone tallied two first half goals and added her final one in the second frame. Greta Farrell made three saves in goal for the Blue Devils. Half Hollow Hills goalie Megan Kanyuk stopped 14 blistering Huntington shots.

Hauppauge too Powerful

The Hauppauge girls' soccer team showed why it is undefeated and residing in first place in Suffolk League V during a 5-0 victory over host Huntington. Blue Devil goalkeeper Hannah Burnett made seven saves. Huntington took six shots on goal, but couldn't get anything into the net.
