Friday Night Dinner Brings Players & Parents Together

If there's one thing Huntington High School football players like more than winning, it's eating and the Blue Devils had an array of food choices last Friday night in the school cafeteria.

Huntington football parents put out a mouth-watering spread for players and coaches at last week's team dinner. The varsity and junior varsity teams came hungry and devoured almost everything in near-record time.

"The football parents get together on Friday night, before Homecoming and present a hot, cooked meal for the teams after their practice," said parent Christina Plant, who coordinates the evening with the help of many other parents. "It is very casual and lots of fun. It is for football families in the high school cafeteria."

Last week's affair drew a crowd of about 125. Superintendent James W. Polansky even stopped in while making the rounds on Float Night. Mrs. Plant said players especially love "homemade specialties" and many parents happily obliged the Blue Devils.

Some of the menu choices included chicken parmigiana, London broil, chicken cutlets, honey baked ham, Sloppy Joe's, chicken wings, sausage and peppers, veal parmigiana, empanadas, turkey, tacos, pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, pasta with tomato sauce, pasta with butter, ravioli, pasta salad, rice and beans, baked ziti, Greek salad, Caesar salad, Italian bread and rolls, cake, brownies, cookies and other assorted desserts.

"The parents put out quite a spread and the players and coaches really loved it," assistant coach Ron Wilson said.
