HHS Students Win French Awards

Deidre Mayer is a proud Huntington High School teacher, especially these days after eight of her French course students earned awards for their exceptional performances.

Junior Allegra DePasquale won "Level Four" first place honors in the Long Island Language Teacher's poetry competition for her piece titled "A Mon Amour" or "To My Love." She was asked to read the work during this week's Foreign Language Honor Society induction ceremony.

Junior Equislaure Gabriel captured third place in the contest for her poem titled "Qui est Un Ami?" or "Who is a Friend?" Mrs. Mayer said she is "very proud" of the accomplishments of her students.

Six Huntington High School students also won awards in this year's National French Exam. At "Level Two," Caitlin Knowles (fourth place), Leah Butz (seventh place) and Justin Edgar-McNerney (10th place) all earned honors. At "Level Three," Olivia Lopez (ninth place) and Marc Feldman in (10th place) were among the top students in the country. Jessica Daniel placed second in the "Level Four" division.

"This exam is incredibly challenging and it is proof of the hard work of Huntington High School French students," Mrs. Mayer said.
