There are 223 student-athletes competing on nine spring teams at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. The five boys' squads have 134 athletes on their rosters. The four girls' teams have 99 athletes in their ranks.

The boys' lacrosse-blue team is the largest of any squad, numbering 36 players followed by boys' lacrosse-white with 35 players. The girls' track and field team has a roster of 29 while the girls' lacrosse-blue and girls' lacrosse-white squads have 26 players each.

The boys' track and field (24 athletes), baseball (20 players), boys' tennis (19 players) and softball (18 players) teams also have healthy levels of participation.

Burnett's a Scoring Machine

Hannah Burnett scored six goals and added three assists to lead the Huntington girls' lacrosse team past Center Moriches, 17-4. The Blue Devils built a 7-1 lead by halftime and remained in control the rest of the way.

Huntington star Alexis Thompson tallied three goals and three assists and Katie Reilly had two goals and an assist. The Blue Devils also received offensive output from Colleen Wright (1g, 1a), Alyssa Amorison (1g, 3a), Hannah Pipolo (1g, 1a), Kelly Askerberg (1g), Gillian Ehrman (1g, 1a) and Lucie Lavelle (1g, 1a). Taylor Moreno stopped nine shots in goal for Huntington. Fiona Geier also played well in goal, recording four saves.

Tara Byrnes' Key Hit

Huntington freshman Tara Byrnes smacked an RBI single to bring Jackie Herrington across the plate in the top of the ninth inning with what proved to be the winning run as the Blue Devil softball team topped Rocky Point, 2-1.

Herrington was masterful on the mound, tossing all nine innings, striking out four, yielding just five hits and an unearned run en route to a complete game victory.

Boys' Tennis Co-Champs

The Huntington tennis team clinched the League II co-championship when be defeated Smithtownn West, 4-3. The deciding match was Max Zelinka's three-set thriller in fourth singles. Zelinka won 6-7(4), 7-6(2), 6-2 to give Huntington a share of the league crown.

Longtime head coach Jamie Fishlow leads the Blue Devils, who finished 9-1 in league play and 9-3 overall.

Freitag to the Rescue

Jake Freitag road to the Huntington baseball team's rescue, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and picking up the win on the mound as the Blue Devils beat Comsewogue, 9-5. It was Huntington's second victory of the season.

Blue Devil catcher Rob Fiato went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI to bolster Huntington's offense.

Six Goals for Plant

Rutgers-bound senior Dan Plant scored six goals to help Huntington move past Kings Park, 15-6. The teams were knotted 4-4 after the first quarter, but the Blue Devils outscored the Kingsmen the rest of the way, 11-2 to seal the victory.

Plant had a career day and he certainly enjoyed the experience. Pat Reilly had two goals and two assists. Thomas Mulligan added two goals. Jack Cutrone had a goal and four assists. Ben Kocis, Connor Birchard, P.J. Beach and Phil Cadorette all scored single goals for the Blue Devils. Josh Long contributed an assist. Goalie T.J. Greenhill recorded 15 saves.

Amorison Scores Five Goals

Alyssa Amorison scored five goals but the Huntington girls' lacrosse team dropped an 18-8 verdict to Sayville. Amorison was splendid from her midfield position. Alexis Thompson scored twice and added four assists and Hannah Burnett also put two balls into the back of the net. Katie Healy picked up an assist for the Blue Devils.

Huntington trailed 9-5 at halftime before Sayville went on a 9-3 second half run to put the game completely out of reach. Anna Tesoriero (10 saves) and Fiona Geier (two saves) handled the goaltending for the Blue Devils.

Three Goals for Dan Plant

Senior Dan Plant scored three goals for the Huntington boys' lacrosse team, but Shoreham-Wading River topped the Blue Devils, 11-6.

Chris Schoen (2g), P.J. Beach (1g, 1a), Jack Cutrone (2a) and Pat Reilly (1a) added to Huntington's offense. Blue Devil goalie T.J. Greenhill made 10 saves in the net.

Huntington Falls to Mt. Sinai

Blue Devil stars Alexis Thompson and Hannah Burnett combined for six goals and five assists, but the Huntington girls' lacrosse team fell to Mt. Sinai, 15-10.

Thompson had three goals and three assists and Burnett added three goals and two assists, but the Blue Devils couldn't overcome the Mustangs' 15 goals. Hannah Pipolo, Katie Healy, Katie Reilly and Annie Nugent scored one goal each for Huntington. Alyssa Amorison pitched in with two assists. Taylor Moreno made 10 saves in goal.
