Art Honor Society Inducts New Members

Sixteen promising young artists were inducted into Huntington High School's art honor society during a ceremony held in the School Heritage Museum last week. The new class swells membership in the organization to 32.

The new members include Julianna Barca, Zach Burden, Emily Coleman, Kaja Coraor, Nicole Giambrone, Lucinda Gulino, Roxana Moreira, Ben Nikodem, Michelle Pechar, Robert Scott, Nicole Smoot, Jeffrey Sun, Celine Takekoshi, Angelica Tome Radigan, Emil Wafajow and James Walsh.

Mr. Wafajow, whose specialty is drawing, said he was "really excited" to become a member of the organization. Each new member spoke briefly during the short evening program that was attended by Principal Carmela Leonardi and Superintendent James W. Polansky.

The ceremony included the traditional lighting of candles, knighting and solemn pledge. Faculty advisor Kasmira Mohanty, Director of Fine and Performing Arts Joan R. Fretz and society President Kylee Kiesel each addressed the crowd.

In addition to Ms. Kiesel, the group's officers include Josh Toor (vice-president), Alexis Weitzner (secretary) and Alexandra Martinolich (treasurer). Continuing members include Elisabeth Burke, Lauren Boyce, Nicole Caputo, Jason Chisolm, Christina Deitz, Sal Franco, Francesca Gray, Amber Linder, Emily McGoldrick, Kara Talve, Christina Thiemann and Anna Wertheim.

As the guests filed into the School Heritage Museum they were treated to a well-received performance by a string quartet that included Jeffrey Sun, Brian Gilbert, Andrea Cerini, Andrew Ku and Ben Nikodem.
