SCWA to Raze Building
The Suffolk County Water Authority has notified the Huntington School District that it intends to raze one of two buildings it owns on Spring Road. "One property is used as a local office for our construction crews and a second property on which a vacant building is located," wrote Jeffrey W. Szabo, SCWA chief executive officer in a letter to local residents.
"Since we no longer have a need for the vacant officer, we have attempted to solicit interest from the Town of Huntington, as well as from private entities, but to no avail," Mr. Szabo wrote. "As such, we have decided to raze the building and landscape the property so your neighborhood is not blighted by a deteriorating building."
The SCWA building is located west of 5.5 vacant acres of land the district has owned on Spring Road since the 1930's when it purchased the tract with an eye toward building an elementary school to feed into Robert K. Toaz Junior High School.
