Blue Devil Boys' Winter Track Coasts

The Huntington High School boys' winter track and field program has seen a number of talented athletes in its ranks over the past three years, elevating the Blue Devils into the top tier of Suffolk teams.

Head coach Ron Wilson has created a family-type atmosphere as he relentlessly pushes his athletes to be all they are capable of being. Wilson was assisted this winter by Shawn Anderson and Eli Acosta.

The grueling season started with a roster of 33 athletes and ended with 23. The squad was captained by Ryan Ackerman, Trayvon Toney, Tyriek Johnson and Shaheem Lewis.

Huntington fielded a young team. Wilson distributed seven first year varsity letters and nine to second year athletes. The Blue Devils finished third in the Suffolk championships and second in the League IV meet. Huntington won the freshman county title.

Johnson, Toney, Lewis, Ackerman, Dan McQuad, Josh Watkins, Michael Garing, John Ceide, Thomas Boisclair and Matteo McNeil each earned All-League honors. Johnson, Lewis and Ackerman later added All-County recognition. Johnson went on to place fifth in the long jump at the state championships at Cornell.
