Huntington Crew to host Boat Retirement Party
This sounds like a pretty neat fundraiser in a place most people will otherwise never have access to. The Huntington High School crew team will hold a retirement party for its oldest boat on Friday, March 23 at the Huntington Yacht Club. The fun begins at 7 p.m. and runs into the later evening. Tickets are on sale for $25.
Hosted by Friends of Huntington Crew, the special affair will feature savory snacks and assorted delicious appetizers with drinks served as "happy hour" prices. "Fabulous" raffle baskets will also be available.
The Blue Devils' oldest boat dates to 1985. It's a four person shell named FURY. "It has won many race, but see better days," said Marc Jensen, Huntington's head coach. "We have a goal of $6,000 to buy a replacement shell that is no more than five years old. These shells are used by the novice rowers to train and compete."
The March 23 fundraising reception is open to the entire community. Tickets are required and can be purchased by contacting Jenn Donovan (mjdon@optonline.net or 631-351-5772) or Marybeth Caputo (caputo5outagain@aol.com or 631-944-1541).
The Huntington Yacht Club was organized on September 15, 1894. The clubhouse is located on the shore of Huntington Harbor. The building is picturesque and quaint. Some feel it is a throwback to an earlier, less hectic era. The club is located on East Shore Road in Huntington.
