Ron Wilson Speaks About the Future

It was another good year for the Huntington High School boys' winter track and field team. But, what does the future hold? Head coach Ron Wilson looked into his crystal ball and offered his forecast for what the Blue Devils' prospects for next year might look like.
"Well, we return a strong core group of underclassmen that will compete at a high level," Wilson said about the 2012/13 campaign. "Joshua Watkins, Marguis Francis, Matteo McNeil, Thomas Boisclair, Jimmie Nelson and Giancarlos Puello will all be returning with experience."
Suffolk shot put champion Shaheem Lewis will also be back for his senior year. "We will definitely have our work cut out because we are graduating a very talented group of seniors who were at the top of their featured events," Wilson said. "It will be tough, but the young men we have returning will be up for the challenge."
This winter, Huntington finished second in League IV for the fifth consecutive season. The ninth graders won the freshmen county crown for the second year in a row.
The Blue Devils placed third in the county, their best finish in "many, many years," Wilson said. "I don't believe we ever placed in the top three during the winter season. We did this with an exceptional group of talented athletes who went through the season breaking every type of record imaginable. We competed well in just about every event."
The coach gave a nod to captains Ryan Ackerman, Shaheem Lewis, Tyriek Johnson, and Trayvon Toney for their exceptional leadership. "This was a team that enjoyed coming to practice," Wilson said. "In between some hard work, we were able to have some fun as well."
