Huntington Students Plan to
Stuff the Bus

The Huntington High School student government is at it again. The organization is collecting non-perishable food and related items to help restock the dwindling stocks of local food pantries. Students will stuff a school bus full of the goods on Saturday morning and spend three hours delivering to sites throughout the town.

Donated items have been piling up in Room 213 at the school. Students are collecting canned vegetables, canned soups, canned beans, spaghetti sauce, canned tuna, packaged macaroni and cheese, rice, pasta, cereal, jars of peanut butter, jars of jelly, bath soap, toothpaste and hot chocolate mix, and similar items.

Fred Bisogno, a social studies teacher at the school who serves as the student government advisor along with teacher Anthony Troffa said the community has really opened its hearts again to help make the Stuff the Bus initiative a success. "The kids have worked really hard on this and the pile of food in my classroom has certainly been growing," Mr. Bisogno said. "No donation is too big or too small."

Huntington High School students were seen collecting items for the drive outside local supermarkets last weekend. "We are really proud of all of the hard work the students have been putting into this food drive," Mr. Troffa said.

This marks the third year the student government is conducting the drive. This Saturday, the collected food items will be "stuffed" into a bus donated by Huntington Coach Corp. for use that day and delivered to local food banks. Those interested in donating items can do so through Friday, March 16 by bringing the goods to the Huntington High School main office.
