Top Blue Devil Athletes Receive Suffolk Gold Keys

A group of 14 talented Huntington athletes were presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at last week's 44th Blue Devil Senior Athletic Awards Banquet in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.

The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation, according to Huntington Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy. This year's Blue Devil recipients include Lidia Aparicio, Peter Beach, Laurelle Byrne-Cody, Jonathan Ceide, Jack Forster, Andrew Funk, Michael Garing, Alexandra Martinolich, Daniel Plant, Conor Reilly, Michael Sullivan, Celine Takekoshi, Trayvon Toney and Colleen Wright.

"The Gold Key is a county award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance," Mrs. McCarthy said. The award is presented in every Suffolk high school to students who have earned a minimum of eight athletic letters on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years

Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky formally presented the awards to the recipients. "This is a wonderful achievement by these fine young men and women," Mr. Polansky said.
