Huntington Choir Interns are Impressive

Huntington High School seniors Hannah Rice and Christian Caronia participated in the career internship program this year, working closely with music teacher Veronica Mainville, who heads the school's choral program.

Ms. Rice has been singing in the choir for all four years of high school and studied concert choir for a year and chamber choir for two years under Mrs. Mainville. She was a talented intern who grew in the role as the weeks went by.

"Hannah made strong progress in the beginning of the year with her conducting and learned how to have a better ear for hearing mistakes in the choir," Mrs. Mainville said. "As a strong soprano, she coached the soprano section during her internship and made great strides with them. Her warm, loving personality attracted the class to her teaching and they loved having her as the class intern."

Regarded as a gifted communicator, Ms. Rice has a passion for music. A talented vocalist who excels in performance settings, the teenager will attend Nassau Community College in the fall where she plans to major in music.

Mr. Caronia is another four year member of the choir, singing in the concert choir for a year under previous choral director Steven Finch and then moving into the chamber choir with Mrs. Mainville for the past three years.

"Christian is a student who has grown tremendously in confidence with his musicianship and vocal skills," Mrs. Mainville said. "He is extremely passionate about singing in the choir and has been a proud member these past couple of years. He served as a section leader in the chamber choir this year and I have always been able to rely on him to be at any performance and know his part well."

Mr. Caronia and Mrs. Mainville worked well together during the course of the career internship program. "It was my pleasure to work with him on his teaching and conducting skills this year," Mrs. Mainville said. "I could see at the final performance that he learned a lot from his internship." Mr. Caronia will attend Farmingdale State College in the fall. He intends to study chemistry there.

The two choral interns are held in high esteem Mrs. Mainville. "They both showed tremendous growth throughout the year and am very proud of their final project, the concert last Wednesday night," the teacher said. "I will truly miss them both and miss them the best of luck at college and beyond!"
