Kevin Abt Wins Principal's Award

Kevin Abt is a confident young man. He's witty, funny, articulate and pleasant to be around. He's popular with his classmates at Huntington High School and highly regarded by teachers and support staff members.

Huntington Principal Carmela Leonardi extolled the virtues of Mr. Abt at last week's senior academic awards night in the high school auditorium. "Kevin has performed well and has been an integral part of our school even in the face of serious physical challenges," Dr. Leonardi said. "He is always ready with a smile."

Mr. Abt will attend Five Towns College in Dix Hills in the fall. He plans to pursue music related studies. He's definitely talented and shown an ability to write catchy lyrics and sing, too. Who knows what achievements are in his future?

The Principal's Award takes into consideration not only the academic achievement of a student but also their leadership qualities or the ability to overcome difficult situations," Dr. Leonardi said. "Kevin has shared his musical talent with the whole school on a number of occasions and brightened the life of many."

Last week's senior honorees sat on the high school stage during the ceremony, unaware of just which award they had been selected to receive until their name was announced. Mr. Abt arrived on the stage first, appearing relaxed and content as he looked out over the gathering crowd. "I'm really looking forward to attending Five Towns College," he said.
