Back-to-Back Victories for Blue Devils

The Huntington High School boys' basketball team is rolling after notching back-to-back victories over Copiague and Comsewogue. The Blue Devils are now within striking distance of qualifying for the post-season. The team needs to win two of its final three games to make the playoffs.

Against Copiague, junior Kiernan McGovern poured in 29 points (16 in the first quarter) to pace Huntington's offense. Junior Patrick Reilly added 19 points and senior John McCarthy contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blue Devils methodically built a 20-11 first quarter lead and held a 35-26 halftime advantage. The Eagles kept things interesting in the second half, going toe-to-toe with Huntington. A wild fourth quarter saw the teams score a combined 57 points, with the Blue Devils outscoring their rival, 29-28 to lock-up the victory.

Senior Jack Forster pulled down 10 rebounds and added six points for Huntington. Trevor Bryant scored nine points.

Two days later, the Blue Devils roared past Comsewogue, 68-26. Huntington opened with a 23-2 run and led at halftime, 30-14. McCarthy had a team-high 14 points to go with 10 rebounds. Forster pumped in nine points. Ty Herion, David Casey and McGovern dropped in eight points apiece. Reilly added seven points.

Huntington is 5-6 in league play, 7-8 overall. The team is coached by Brian Carey and Tim Madden.
