Walsh Becomes Honorary NEHS Member

Popular Huntington High School college counselor Bernadette Walsh was inducted into one of the school's honor societies last week during a ceremony in the School Heritage Museum.

"The Post Ellipsis chapter of the National English Honor Society takes pleasure in bestowing on you the title of honorary member," said senior Molly Prep, the organization's vice-president. "This is done in consideration of your position as an influential counselor at Huntington High School for the past six years, including your service as an advisor to students going through all aspects of the college application process."

Mrs. Walsh holds an undergraduate degree from Mount Saint Mary College in human services and psychology and a master's degree from LIU Post in school counseling. She began her career at Preston High School in the Bronx and came to Huntington in 2006.

The induction ceremony saw 50 new members of the English Honor Society formally brought into the fold, bringing the group's membership ranks to 179.

Mrs. Walsh sat on the small School Heritage Museum stage with the society's executive board members, faculty-advisors and school administrators during the 30-minute ceremony. Ms. Prep praised the college counselor for her work on behalf of Huntington's students.

"The guidance you give students in their everyday lives truly shows your dedication to building a strong educational environment, not only in English, but for the entire high school community," Ms. Prep said about Ms. Walsh. "The National English Honor Society would like to recognize your commitment to the furthering of literacy and higher education as exemplary in nature."
