Ceide's Career Night Leads Huntington

Joellen Ceide had a career night as the Huntington High School girls' basketball worked through some tepid early play to defeat visiting Central Islip, 61-17 last Friday night.
Ceide scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Raynisha Witherspoon had 10 points and nine rebounds. The Blue Devils found themselves tied 10-10 before going on a 40-1 run over three different quarters to put the game away.
The Huntington juggernaut saw 11 players score in the game, led by Ceide, a 5'8 junior. Heather Forster added eight points and Tara Byrnes had six more, including four from the foul line. Mackenzie Maloney had three points and five steals.
Huntington led 14-10 after the first quarter before opening a 32-11 halftime lead. The Blue Devils essentially locked up the victory with some impressive third quarter play that saw the team's lead balloon to 50-11 before a crowd of about 75 in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
Mary Grace Trousdell scored five points for Huntington and Caitlin Knowles and Emma Hughes had four points each. Katie Nugent scored three points and Katie Reilly and Emma DeGennaro had two points each.
The win improved Huntington's record to 2-0. The Blue Devils open their league season Thursday at Hauppauge. Tip-off is set for 5:45 p.m.
