Huntington Wrestling Tournament Set for this Saturday

The 43rd annual Huntington Holiday Wrestling Tournament is slated for this Saturday (Dec. 8) at Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The competition will include seven teams.

Huntington will be joined by teams from Massapequa, Kings Park, Port Jervis, Northport, Center Moriches and Grand Street Campus (NYC). The tournament will start at 9:30 a.m. and continue uninterrupted throughout the day on multiple mats.

The Blue Devils will be led by returning champions John Arceri, Corey Jamison, Nick Lupi and Anthony Puca. Huntington is coached by Kieran Mock, Peter Fusco and Travis Smith.

The top six place finishers in each of fifteen weigh classes will be given awards. The first and second place teams will receive trophies. Awards will also be presented to the most outstanding wrestler (Ray Ferrari Award) and the wrestler with the most pins in the least amount of time (Jerry Grenier Award).

Coaches from the participating schools will meet in private for a seeding meeting on Thursday (Dec. 6) at Huntington High School at 7 p.m. to separate the top wrestlers and set-up brackets for each weight class. Schools are permitted to enter two wrestlers in each of the 15 weight classes, but only one wrestler will score toward the team standings.

In addition to the Blue Devils' first place finishes in last year's tournament, Kyle Mock (4th-99 lbs.), Tyshon Parker (6th-106 lbs.), Brandon Mendez (6th-132 lbs.), Kevin Mendez (3rd-138 lbs.), Joseph Puca (4th-145 lbs.) and John Mallouk (3rd-152 lbs.) also earned medals in the competition.
