Hannah Burnett scored two goals, but the Huntington High School girls' lacrosse team dropped a 15-4 decision to Harborfields. The Tornadoes staked out a 7-2 lead by halftime and then went on to outscore the Blue Devils in the second frame, 8-2.
In addition to Burnett's offense, Huntington received goals from Alexis Thompson and Kaylyn Johnston. Fiona Geier made seven saves in goal for the Blue Devils. Goalies Anna Tesoriero and Taylor Moreno stopped three shots each in the net.
First Win on Diamond
Junior Rob Fiato blasted a three-run double in the top-half of the fifth inning to lift the Huntington baseball team to its first win of the season, 6-3 over Deer Park. Joey Dillhoff earned a complete game victory, fanning eight. The senior also smacked a pair of hits and drove in two runs to help his own cause.
Overtime Thriller
Senior Jack Cutrone notched the game-winning goal in the first overtime as the Huntington boys' lacrosse team topped Miller Place, 6-5. It took Cutrone only 45 seconds of overtime to put the ball in the net. Teammate Dan Plant scored two goals for the Blue Devils, who also received offensive output from Chris Schoen (1g), Thomas Mulligan (1g, 1a) and Pat Reilly (1g, 1a). Huntington goalies T.J. Greenhill recorded eight saves.
Byrne-Cody Drives in Five
Blue Devil All-League shortstop Laurelle Byrne-Cody knocked out three hits and drove in five runs to pace the Huntington softball team to a 19-0 victory over John H. Glenn. Senior Jackie Herrington collected three hits and an RBI. Freshman pitcher Ellyn Byrnes struck out four and picked up the win in the game, which was called after five innings.
Boys' Tennis Rebounds
The Huntington boys' tennis team rebounded from a tough 7-0 loss to Smithtown East and coasted past Hauppauge, 6-1. Blue Devil junior Maxwell Zelinka looked strong in fourth singles, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Late Rally Not Enough
The Huntington girls' lacrosse team staged a second half rally but it was not enough as East Hampton held on to defeat the Blue Devils, 12-10.
Huntington fell behind in the first half, 8-3 but then outscored the Bonackers in the second frame, 7-4. Alexis Thompson had four goals and two assists for the Blue Devils. Hannah Burnett (3g, 1a), Colleen Wright (2g) and Allison Mehring (1g) also scored for Huntington. Anna Tesoriero made 11 saves in goal.
Walk-off Loss to SWR
Shoreham-Wading River earned a walk-off 3-2 victory over the Huntington softball team. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and the score knotted at 2-2, SWR singled home the winning run. Blue Devil pitcher Jackie Herrington was tagged with the loss despite tossing a beautiful game.
A Winning Formula
Dan Plant and Pat Reilly scored three goals each to lead the Huntington boys' lacrosse team over Babylon, 14-4. The Blue Devils built an insurmountable 10-1 first half lead en route to a most satisfying victory.
In addition to notching a hat-trick, Plant added two assists. Huntington's Chris Schoen (2g), P.J. Beach (2g, 1a), Jack Cutrone (1g, 3a), Spencer Colwin (1g), Ben Kocis (1g), Phil Cadorette (1g) and Thomas Mulligan (1a).
Blue Devil goalies T.J. Greenhill (seven saves), Todd Colvin (three saves) and Don Tesoriero (one save) performed splendidly between the poles.
