Jeff Dicker is Man on the Move

Jeffrey Dicker is a man on the move these days. The Washington Primary School reading teacher is training for the Brooke Jackman Race for Literacy on Saturday, May 19 in Oyster Bay.

Mr. Dicker earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Buffalo and obtained a master's degree at Adelphi. He received an advanced graduate certificate at Stony Brook University in educational leadership, along with state certification as an administrator.

"The Brooke Jackman Foundation is a not-for-profit organization created in response to the World Trade Center attack that claimed the life of Brooke Jackman, age 23," according to the group's website. "Its mission is to honor Brooke's legacy – a deep love of reading and a profound interest in helping children – by helping create and support programs enhancing the literacy and self-esteem of children."

"Jeff is very devoted to helping children read," Washington Principal Marsha Neville said. "It's wonderful that he is helping to raise money to support literacy initiatives. It shows just how committed he is to his life's work."

Ms. Jackman was working for bond giant Cantor Fitzgerald as an assistant trader on the 104th floor of One World Trade Center at the time of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. A graduate of Columbia University, she planned to pursue a master's degree in social work in order to help disadvantaged children. Ms. Jackman was one of 658 Cantor Fitzgerald employees killed in the 9-11 attack.

Mr. Dicker is originally from Westchester. He began working in the Huntington School District in 2003, first at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and later at Washington School, a building filled with more than 450 students spread across kindergarten through fourth grades.

Proceeds from the May 19 5K run/walk will benefit the Brooke Pack, Project Brooke and Brooke's Books, initiatives aimed at children in diverse city, agency and school programs.
