SEPTA Bike Clinic Draws 40 Participants

You should have seen the excitement in their eyes and the smile on their faces. Sure, there was a little bit of nervousness, but the 40 students that participated in the Huntington Special Education PTA bike clinic last weekend had a great time.

On an unexpectedly sunny afternoon, more than three dozen children ranging from five to 16 years old participated in three hours of instruction and activity in the J. Taylor Finley Middle School parking field.

Participants were coached and encouraged to ride their bicycles without training wheels. Each of the riders made progress towards this goal and several had complete success, excitedly leaving the parking lot on their own two wheels.

KIDS, Plus, a non-profit foundation that promotes "kids in developmental sports," partnered with SEPTA to pull off the fun day. Parents at the clinic called it "a really wonderful idea," as children of all ages and ability levels participated.

"The smiles and pride were shared by the volunteers, parents and of course, the cyclers," SEPTA co-President Christine Biernacki said. This marks the third year SEPTA has sponsored the bike clinic. The continued enthusiastic response to the event assures there will be a fourth installment next spring

"SEPTA is grateful to all of the volunteers from both K.I.D.S. Plus and from within the Huntington school community," SEPTA co-President Julie Porzio said.

SEPTA membership is open to any interested parent. For more information contact the organization at huntingtonsepta@gmail.com.
