Close Losses Stymie Blue Devil
Boys' Fencing

The Huntington boys' fencing team closed out its season with a 4-11 record. Five of the squad's losses came by a single point, 14-13.

The Blue Devils were captained by Nicolas Maiarelli, Jackson Cohen and Jason Chisolm. Alan Kuver, Mike Fabio and Valinda O'Garra coached the squad.

Maiarelli (second team All-County in foil), Cohen (second team All-County in foil), James Ferraiolo (second team All-County in epee), Joseph Rizzi (honorable mention All-County in foil) and Brent Filippini (honorable mention All-County in saber) earned individual honors.

Ferraiolo was the epee squad's leader. "He performed well against a senior laden weapon," Kuver said. Of the 13 All-County fencers, the coach said 10 are seniors.

In only his second year of fencing, Cohen found his footing during the season. The senior went on a 12-0 run over a four week period, earning All-County honors in the process.

The highlight of the season came when the Blue Devils bested Half Hollow Hills, 15-12 after losing a close match two days earlier, 14-13. Kuver called his team a "hard working group with strong epee and saber squads around a rebuilding foil group."
