HHS Spring Sports Participation Solid
The 13 spring sports teams at Huntington High School have attracted 324 student-athletes to their ranks, according to figures provided to the Huntington School Board by the athletic department.
The varsity girls' track and field has the largest roster with 47 athletes, followed by the co-ed crew team, which has attracted 46 teenagers. The varsity and junior varsity boys' lacrosse teams have 36 players each. Varsity boys' track and field has 28 athletes on its roster.
Varsity girls' lacrosse team has 26 players and the JV girls' lacrosse squad has a roster of 16. Boys' varsity and JV tennis each consist of 16 players. The baseball program included 16 varsity players and a JV roster of 17. There were 14 varsity softball players and 11 on the program's JV team.
According to Huntington Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy, the seven boys' teams have 165 participants while the rosters of the five girls' squads are filled with 115 athletes. The one co-ed team (crew) had 46 members. There are 22 coaches involved with the high school spring program.
