Poetry Café Returns to HHS Library

The Huntington High School library was transformed one afternoon last week as the Post Ellipsis chapter of the National English Honor Society converted the space into a poetry café. There were readings and refreshments during the much welcomed break from the usual hectic lifestyle most teenagers pursue.
Huntington's poetry café dates back several years and has already become a time-honored tradition. Librarian Patricia Dillon was a willing host and thoroughly enjoyed the event. "It was unique, that's for sure," Mrs. Dillon said.
More than 100 students turned out to celebrate National Poetry Month. The event, which was coordinated by junior Taylor Choy, saw students read the works of many renowned poets, along with some original pieces of their own. "Everyone had a great time," Mrs. Dillon said.
To be considered for NEHS membership a student must have a minimum academic grade average of 90, "exhibiting an impressive breadth of academic excellence," while maintaining a grade of at least 92 in English. Teachers Aimee Antorino and Helen Guarino serve as the organization's faculty advisors. There are 163 inducted members in its ranks this year.
