A New Southdown Tradition Takes Hold

The first ever Southdown School PTA Community Day was such a success last spring that the organization plans on putting together another one for Saturday, April 28.
The grounds of the school on Browns Road are known to be fairly deserted on a typical weekend, but they will come alive later this month with a huge garage sale, live music, lawn games, car wash, lemonade stand, food drive and an assortment of other fun activities. There will also be a sports equipment swap for students.
Folks who want to donate items for the garage sale should drop them off at the school on Saturday, April 28 between 8-10 a.m. Proceeds will go to the PTA to support its school-related activities. The garage sale will be open for business between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Leftover items will be donated to a service organization in Huntington.
Garage sale items are expected to run the gamut from toys, books and clothes to furniture and rugs and much more. Don't be surprised to find some hidden gems among all the goods.
Last year's event drew folks of all ages who cast aside their normal Saturday activities to spend time together enjoying games, tours of a fire truck and ambulance, music, food and refreshments. This year's special day is still shaping up. More details are expected soon.
Southdown is located at the intersection of Southdown and Browns Roads in Huntington. A rain date of May 5 has been set should inclement weather force a postponement.
