Summer Girls' Basketball Camp Coming to Huntington
The Huntington Booster Club is sponsoring a summer girls' basketball camp on July 16-19 from 5-8 p.m. in the Huntington High School gym. Registration is $125 per player.
The camp is open to girls entering grades 3-8. It will be directed by Blue Devil head varsity coach Mike Kaplan, who just completed his second year with the program. Kaplan played basketball at SUNY College at Brockport, which reached the NCAA tournament twice during his career there. He was an assistant coach at perennial Long Island power Harborfields for several seasons. Kaplan is the owner of Power of One Health and Fitness in Northport, which provides personal training services.
Blue Devil varsity assistant coach Marissa Bergmann and junior varsity coach Danielle DeAngelis will also be on the camp staff.
The summer camp is a program for beginners to players entering the JV level. "Our basketball camp will provide a solid foundation for your child," states the camp brochure. "Our experienced and dedicated staff will teach players the basic techniques and principles of the game, while supporting and encouraging them through two daily scrimmages."
Camp staff will group players by age and ability. Participants will engage in skill development station, daily conditioning drills, scrimmaging, skill contests and games. Guest speakers are also planned.
"Our focus will be on both technical and tactical training and will serve as an excellent opportunity for both new and current players to improve their game," according to the camp brochure. "The goal of the camp is to improve individual skill levels and develop a fundamental understanding of basketball."
