Boy Scouts Landscape
Patrick Hannon Memorial

Patrick Hannon is an unforgettable little boy. The Woodhull School community will always have a special place in its collective heart for the sixth grader who passed away last July while at a Boy Scout camp in Rhode Island. Last Saturday, members of Boy Scout Troop 78 turned out to help landscape a memorial at the school in the youngster's honor.

Despite inclement weather, members of Mr. Hannon's former troop worked hard creating new flower beds and retaining walls around an already sturdy cherry tree that was planted last fall during a touching after school ceremony on what would have been the youngster's 11th birthday.

Mr. Hannon was winding down a week spent at the 1,800 Yawgoog Scout Reservation in rural Hopkinton, near the Connecticut state line, at the time of his sudden passing in his sleep. The camp is operated by the Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America. A spokesman for the Council called the tragedy "the saddest day in the 96 year history of the camp."

The Woodhull School community remembers Mr. Hannon as an energetic, polite and enthusiastic youngster, who had a twinkle in his eye and an extra spring in his step. He performed in the school play and was a well-liked classmate, known for his quick smile.

Boy Scout Troop 78 expressed its appreciation for the generosity of County Line Masonry and Meehan's of Huntington, along with the local businesses and community members who supported the Woodhull faculty softball game last fall, which raised more than $3,000 to fund Boy Scout summer camp scholarships in Mr. Hannon's name.
