Huntington Cafeterias are
Ready to Serve

When students assemble in the cafeteria line in the Huntington School District this week they will find plenty of nutritious hot and cold food ready to be served. The food service program is prepared to serve thousands of breakfast and lunch meals each day.

September menus for all schools have been posted on the district website, along with pre-paid meal ticket applications. Applications for free and reduced meals have been mailed to parents. The forms must be returned as soon as possible. Participants must be income requirements.

The price for lunch at the primary and intermediate grade levels has been raised 10 cents from $1.90 to $2. The lunch price at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School will be $2.35, an increase of 10 cents from last year's $2.25. The price for milk (50 cents) and breakfast ($1.25) remain unchanged.

"Starting October 1st anyone receiving a free or reduced priced meal will no longer be on the same status unless they complete and submit a new application," said Oscar Giraldo, the district's food service consultant from Whitsons Culinary Group. "It is mandatory for everyone. If a parent does not receive the new application in the mail, extra applications will be left in each school cafeteria or they can pick them up at the food and nutrition office located in the high school."

Huntington's food service program strives to provide students and staff with healthy, nutritious and good tasting food choices each day. Detailed monthly menus are provided to each school. These are also posted on the district's website as a link on each school page.

A variety of breakfast and lunch items are offered, including complete meals and numerous ala carte choices. Although the cafeteria program is self-sustaining, prices are kept as low as possible. An assortment of salads, hot and cold sandwiches, hot meals, yogurt and other items are featured along with fruit, milk and juice. At the secondary level, additional choices are provided along with traditional items.

Half and full year lunch tickets are also available for purchase at each school to reduce or eliminate the need to carry money each day. (To access a pre-paid ticket order form click on the Forms and Files link on this page.)

The food service program is also capable of catering grade level parties and special events. For more information call the Food & Nutrition Office at 673-2107
