Huntington SEPTA Offers Program for Young Athletes
The Special Olympics young athletes program will kick-off in the Huntington School District on Saturday (October 29) at Jefferson Primary School at 10 a.m.
"The young athlete program was created to help meet the physical and developmental needs of children with intellectual disabilities, ages 2 ½ to 7, in the areas of physical activity and play, with an emphasis on sports skill development," according to a promotional flyer.
The new program is being jointly offered by the Huntington School District and the Special Education Parent Teacher Assn. "The activities presented in the program are designed to develop the fundamental prerequisite skills to prepare athletes for future participation in sports."
The program will feature a 12-week schedule and run from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the following Saturdays: October 29, November 5 and 19, December 10 and 17, January 21 and 28, February 11 and 18 and March 3, 17 and 31. There will be a pep rally at the session on April 7.

The Special Olympics Spring Games North is slated for Sunday, April 15 at Huntington high School.
